Lambuth University Professor Delivers MC Lecture

Steven Patterson, Eaves Lectureship Speaker
Lambuth University historian Steven Patterson will return to Mississippi College on Thursday, April 16, to deliver a lecture at his alma mater in Clinton.

A 1990 MC graduate, Patterson teaches European history at the United Methodist Church-affiliated school in Jackson, TN. He's done extensive research in modern Britain, including the British Empire.

Patterson is the author of the recently published "The Cult of Imperial Honor in British India." He will present the R. Glen Eaves Lectureship in British and European History at the Jean Pittman Williams Recital Hall. Beginning at 7 p.m., the program in Aven Hall is free and open to the public.

"We are pleased to welcome to the campus a former student whose accomplishments in his chosen field hold much promise for a long and rewarding career," said Kirk Ford, an MC history and political science professor.

Patterson is a popular and well-respected professor at the 815-student private university in Tennessee. In 2008, the Student Government Association named Dr. Patterson the recipient of the Billie P. Exum Outstanding Educator Award.

Patterson joined the Lambuth faculty in 2003, the same year he received his doctorate at the University of Memphis. He earned his master's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1995. He serves as an assistant professor of history at the school located between Memphis and Nashville.

The Eaves lectureship is named for Glen Eaves, a professor and former dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Mississippi College.
