MC Baptist Student Union Travels to Texas and Colorado

Spring break trips to the beach are out for more than 30 members of Mississippi College's Baptist Student Union.

Instead, they will travel to Texas and Colorado for week-long mission trips to spread the message of Christ. MC's spring break runs from March 14 until March 22.

Heidi Cheatham, associate director of the Baptist Student Union, says 22 BSU members will visit apartment complexes in Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington to cultivate Bible clubs and plant churches in the Texas cities.

"The students work very hard the whole week, but also have a wonderful time growing together and having fun as they serve," Cheatham said Tuesday. "The project is very fulfilling. We always have a great opportunity to share Christ through the Backyard Bible Ministry of Mission Arlington."

Cheatham and a BSU intern will accompany the students on the Texas trip. Students such as Rebecca White of Brandon and Kayla Gray of Jackson will be traveling to the Lone Star State.

Nine other BSU members from the Christian university in Clinton will travel to Bellvue, Colorado to repair and maintain facilities at the Sky Corral Ranch. The site houses ministry programs.

Before classes resume March 23, MC students like Katie Caves will be joining a spring break mission trip to Mexico as part of a team from First Baptist Church in Clinton. A pre-med/biology major and Bogue Chitto resident, Caves is one of 32 making the journey. She's part of the Class of 2012 at the Baptist-affiliated school.

Before the year is over, 19 BSU members will be involved in summer mission trips around the United States and around the globe, including nations in Southeast Asia. The MC students will leave at the end of May for orientation.

Recently, the 19 MC students were commissioned to serve this summer. The program is sponsored by the Mississippi College BSU and Collegiate Ministry Department in cooperation with the North American and International Mission Boards.
