Mississippi Artists Workshop at MC

Mississippi artists who specialize in dance, music, poetry, storytelling and the visual arts are visiting Mississippi College June 8-9.

They are coming to the Clinton campus for a workshop held at the MC Department of Art. The event is sponsored by the Mississippi Alliance for Art Education.

The workshop is designed for artists from across the state who wish to work in Mississippi schools, from kindergarten through the 12th grade. The workshop will take place in Aven Hall Room 216 and the Gore Galleries. About 15 to 20 artists are expected to attend.

"The goal of the workshop is to increase the number of artists included in the Mississippi Art Commission's teaching artist roster,'' said Randy Miley, chairman of the MC art department and a board member with the Mississippi Alliance for Art Education. Music professors Craig Young, the director of MC bands, and Bonnie Williams also serve on the board.

Participants at the Level II (advanced) workshop will learn to plan arts experiences for students and how to lead professional development workshops for teachers. The workshop begins at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 8.
