Mississippi College Awards First Pete Evans Scholarship

November 12, 2008

Hattiesburg businessman Bobby Chain treasures his long friendship with the late William F. "Pete" Evans. He provided the financial support to create a lasting scholarship in his honor that will help MC students for generations to come.

Chain and Evans were roommates at MC in the late 1940s on the fourth floor at Chrestman Hall and began a deep friendship that spanned decades. Evans, who served as a pastor in Kentucky and Mississippi, was the minister who presided at the marriage ceremony for Bobby and Betty Chain in 1967.

On Wednesday, the Chains returned to MC for a luncheon on the Clinton campus to meet the first recipient of the William F. "Pete" Evans Scholarship and rekindle fond memories with members of the Evans family.

"We were roommates for one year?
