New York City hosted the National Moot Court competition with the Mississippi College School of Law turning in a strong second-place finish in the Big Apple.

Prior to the final round Feb. 4, MC's moot court team defeated Emory University, the University of Seattle, Texas Tech and the University of Georgia. The University of Arkansas law school ended up No. 1 team in the competition.

Third-year MC law student Levy Leatherman put in a tremendous performance as the second best oralist. MC law also achieved the second best brief score. MC law students Constance Brewster and Krissy Casey rounded out the stellar team from the law school in downtown Jackson.

Sponsored by the New York City Bar and the American College of Trial Lawyers, the National Moot Court competition is one of the oldest and largest of its type in the USA. Each year, more than 150 law schools take part in regional rounds before the winners advance to the finals in New York City. This year, 178 law schools competed in the regionals.

MC law professor Matt Steffey serves as the coach of the moot court team.

MC law dean Jim Rosenblatt commended the students. But he also showered praise on Steffey and Advocacy Director Vicki Lowery for their many contributions to the team's success.

The MC team won the regional moot court competition in Montgomery, Ala. in November 2009.
