The athletic administration degree is designed for those who wish to work in the administrative areas of athletics either at a college or secondary school. You will have the opportunity to create both successful and financially responsible athletic programs within an educational institution. As a student of the athletic administration program, you will combine an in-depth knowledge of sports, finance, human resources, legal structures, ethics, leadership, management and more to become a successful athletic administrator.
The program is a 37-hour degree that will be completed over a two-year cycle, and you will be able to choose between Interscholastic and Intercollegiate Athletic Administration.
As a student of the Interscholastic concentration, you will develop leadership skills and an understanding of the concepts of personnel management techniques. Course curriculum also includes Basics of Effective Leadership, Basics of School Finance, Issues and Concepts of Personnel Management, and Legal Structures and Legal Issues.
If you choose the Intercollegiate concentration, your course curriculum will include Basic Understandings in HED, Finance in Higher Education, Issues/Concepts of Personnel Management, and Law and Higher Education. This program is offered exclusively online, providing coaches and administrators complete flexibility.
This program includes a four-hour practicum experience in lieu of a thesis.
Mississippi College understands that people lead busy lives who have to juggle multiple responsibilities. That is why our Athletic Administration Master’s program is offered in the evenings as well as online in order to work with your busy schedule. This program does require two six-week practicums, which involves a minimum of 60 clock hours on-site at a location approved by the Graduate Advisory Committee.
