The purpose of foreign language/ second language study is to acquaint students with a culture, a language and a literatureother than their own. In keeping with the basic mission and philosophy of the Department of Modern Languages, the basic goals of the department are:
- to acquaint non-language majors with a culture, language and literature other than their own;
- to provide language majors with the skills and knowledge necessary for effective communication in the second language;
- and to provide adequate training for those who plan to continue their language study in graduate school and for those who plan to enter professional fields that require a mastery of a second language.
