Career Day 2009 Comes to MC February 24
Karen Lindsey-Lloyd, MC Career Services director
Facing a tough job market nationwide, hundreds of MC students are expected for the annual event is set for Tuesday Feb. 24. The Career Day runs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Anderson Hall at the B.C. Rogers Student Center on the Clinton campus.
Representatives from Baptist Health Systems, Clinton Public Schools, Jackson Public Schools, BlueCross BlueShield of Mississippi, the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Methodist Rehabilitation Center, St. Dominic Health Services, and the Jackson-Evers International Airport will be among those on hand at MC. Business owners, representatives from accounting firms and government agencies are expected, too.
Last year's event attracted 500 MC students and alumni. The deadline for employers to register is Friday Jan. 30. The fee for employers is $100. School districts participate for free.
Students, alumni and employers will have the opportunity to meet with MC President Lee Royce, faculty and administrators. It figures to be another busy day for MC Career Services Director Karen Lindsey-Lloyd and Assistant Director Hayley Taff, the chief organizers of the event.
Recruiters making the rounds at the 2008 Career Day included Jodi Creed of the Human Resources Office at Baptist Health Systems in Jackson. "We think MC nurses are always among those better prepared," she said. "We love MC graduates."
This year's theme is "find the employees you need and the talent you deserve."
The Career Day will also feature resume reviews and coaching for MC students and alumni. Employers these days can evaluate potential employees very quickly. First impressions and fashion etiquette at interview sessions are really critical, experts say. Sometimes it can take as little as three to five seconds to size up job candidates at interviews, Lindsey-Lloyd said.
Employers are encouraged to go to www.mc.edu/career/employers/careerday.php to register.
