Hundreds of Mississippi College student-athletes, delicious tailgating food, and a football scrimmage game are all part of MC’s Choctaw Fanfare.

Moved this year to the Quad where scores of tailgating families step up their game, the third annual event on August 20 promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Alumni, faculty, staff, students and Mississippi College friends are invited to wear their favorite Blue & Gold attire and show their MC Choctaws pride that Saturday. It’s a good way to build school spirit on the Clinton campus as MC sports teams return this fall as a full member of NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference.

Choctaw Fanfare is open to the public. The family-friendly event runs from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. that Saturday evening.

Head coaches like John Bland will speak to fans about the Choctaws upcoming 2016 football season. MC opens with the Point University Skyhawks of Georgia on September 3 at Robinson-Hale Stadium. Kick-off is at 2 p.m.

Several coaches from other MC Choctaws teams, like volleyball, soccer and cross country, will be speaking, too, as they showcase their players.

Choctaw Fanfare figures to be a fantastic summer treat for photographers. MC’s new sports personality Tom A. Hawk is expected to roam the Quad and Robinson-Hale Stadium during the scrimmage game for a blitz of cell phone photos.

Lori Bobo, assistant director of alumni affairs, is anticipating a nice crowd of all ages for the fun-filled festivities.

“Our goal is to keep building on the Choctaw Fanfare tradition started three years ago,” Bobo said. “It will be an action-packed tailgate. We encourage everyone to attend.”

The MC Choctaws football team will do the traditional walk through on the Quad. There will be music, inflatables for the kids, games, Campus Dining tailgate food and much more, she said.

Choctaw Fanfare was held the first two years at the A.E. Wood Coliseum, home of the Mississippi College basketball teams.

Choctaw Fanfare happens during the first day of Welcome Week activities for hundreds of new MC students. Move-In Day will be August 20 as freshmen enter university residence halls for the first time.

Tickets for Choctaw Fanfare cost $10 for adults and the price is $5 for children between the ages of five to twelve. People seeking to register to tailgate should go to www.mc.edu/tailgating
