Freshmen Orientation at Mississippi College Set for July 9-10

Mississippi College Orientation, July 9-10

More than 170 freshmen from around the Southeast and other USA regions will visit Mississippi College for summer orientation July 9-10.

Dinner with President Lee Royce, opportunities to learn about academic programs, and meet leaders of student organizations are some of the activities planned.

“Orientation for these incoming students will give them a sneak preview of the next chapter of their life as a Choctaw,” says Elizabeth Rogers, 21, an MC senior.

A few years ago, the elementary education major experienced an MC summer orientation before beginning fall classes in late August. The Brandon resident believes the two-day event is key to getting adjusted to life at the 5,000-student Christian university.

“Orientation is a great way for freshmen to meet, and to get to know friends and faculty who will pour into them during their next four years at Mississippi College,” Rogers says. She’s serving as student director for MC’s 2015 orientation.

It promises to be a busy two days for the freshmen and their parents.

Check-in for the freshmen will begin 9 a.m. at Anderson Hall on July 9. Campus tours, lunch with leaders of MC student clubs and tribes, check-in at residence halls and a 6:30 p.m. dinner with President Royce are a few of the highlights.

More than 200 parents arriving won’t be ignored.

Parents are invited to sessions on financial aid, meetings with student life staff, and Thursday evening prayer time at Provine Chapel. On Friday morning, they can enjoy a continental breakfast with area college pastors at Anderson Hall. There’s also a 7:30 a.m. breakfast set for student-athletes and parents at the B.C. Rogers Food Court.
