MC Alumni Gather at Mississippi Baptist Convention

Mississippi College alumni will gather in downtown Jackson just hours before the start of the 174th annual meeting of the Mississippi Baptist Convention.

The MC alumni will hear from President Lee Royce, alumni affairs director Ross Aven and other school officials at a reception Monday evening Oct. 26.

Delicious desserts will be featured on the menu. The hour-long event begins 8:30 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the Christian Life Center at First Baptist Church in downtown Jackson.

Officially beginning Tuesday morning Oct. 27, the two-day convention begins at 8:30 a.m. when Mississippi Baptist Convention President Mickey Dalrymple sounds the gavel and greets hundreds of visitors.

A number of speakers at the convention have MC ties. Among them is International Mission Board President Jerry Rankin, who will address the audience at 9 a.m. Tuesday. A longtime Southern Baptist Convention leader and MC graduate, Rankin is retiring from his IMB post next year.

MC graduate Jim Futral, the Mississippi Baptist Convention's executive director-treasurer, will speak to hundreds of convention messengers and other guests Tuesday evening. Former MC administrator Bettye R. Coward, the president of Blue Mountain College, will update convention guests about her Baptist school in north Mississippi Wednesday morning.

During the convention, the organization's 2010 budget will be adopted. Officials will also announce the results of the election of convention leaders, including the group's president.

On Tuesday, the Mississippi Singing Churchmen will deliver a praise concert and the Mississippi Baptist Symphony Orchestra will provide musical selections to highlight the convention's opening day.
