MC Homecoming 2009 Features Student Events

Mississippi College's 2009 Homecoming that comes to an end Sunday Nov. 1 received a big boost this fall from MC student leaders.

From Student Government Association President David Parker of Meridian to Homecoming Queen Lauren Rogers of Rincon, Ga. to Campus Activities Board Chairman Jonathan Nutt of Clinton and a parade of other undergraduates, they teamed up to make Homecoming a success, despite the rain.

The weekend lineup includes the zany Follies skits performed Friday night at Swor Auditorium by students involved with social tribes and clubs. Tickets cost $5 for the 6 p.m. show on Nelson Hall. Tickets sold like hotcakes at the MC cafeteria all week.

While rainy conditions canceled Friday's MC alumni golf tournament, many other events stayed on track.

Saturday's 8 a.m. Hap Hudson road race to honor the former MC coach, a 9 a.m. Dixie Division table Tennis Tournament at the Baptist Healthplex, and a 1 pm Homecoming parade on College Street stayed on the schedule. So is the 4 p.m. Choctaws football home game against Howard Payne. A 1:30 p.m. MC Singers Homecoming concert at Provine Chapel at 1:30 p.m. is another must-see event this weekend.

Sunday afternoon's Hymn Festival at 3 p.m. at Provine Chapel is the second event in a five-part concert series to mark the building's 150th birthday celebration this year.

The salute to MC's Homecoming Court was one of the big attractions of the annual weekend that attracted alumni from all over the South and other regions of the nation. This year's Homecoming theme is "Carnival on College Street."

This year's Maid of Honor is Tressie Smith of Brandon, who was escorted by SGA Vice President Samuel Gregory of Hernando. The Senior Maid is Anna Boyd of Clinton escorted by Jonathan Nutt, the activities board chair. The Junior Maid is Kathryn Wyatt of Richton who was escorted by Corey Hicks of Byram, president of the junior class.

The Sophomore Maid is Anastasia Clark of Lake Charles, La. and her escort is Taylor Stringer of Tylertown, president of the MC sophomore class. The Freshman Maid is Ashley Howard of Madison whose escort is Grant Phillips of Plano, Texas, the president of the freshman class.
