Mississippi College Monitors Severe Weather Threat

Mississippi College officials will closely monitor winter weather conditions with forecasts calling for snow and freezing rain for Wednesday night through Thursday for much of the Magnolia State.

"We could see the coldest temperatures in 30 years this week," said Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Executive Director Mike Womack. "This is one of those emergencies we can see coming and people should prepare themselves."

Low temperatures will likely reach the teens. For the latest weather information go to MEMA's site at www.msema.org.

MC officials say they plan to make weather-related decisions on the Clinton campus early Thursday morning. That information will be posted immediately on the university's Web site at www.mc.edu.

Such decisions by school leaders could impact such things as whether MC offices will be open Thursday and the scheduling of Friday's spring semester registration for new students.

At the moment, spring registration for new students remains on track to begin with check-in at 8 a.m. on Jan. 8. Spring classes are scheduled to begin Monday Jan. 11.
