UPS Executive Visits MC School of Business Oct. 8

David Abney, chief operating officer at United Parcel Service, will speak at the Mississippi College School of Business Oct. 8.

A Mississippi native and Delta State University graduate, Abney will address students and faculty as part of the school's Executive Speaker Series. His speech will begin at 11 a.m. at the Ed Trehern Lecture Hall at 210 Self Hall.

As chief operating officer, Abney oversees the pickup and delivery of 15.8 million packages and documents daily to service areas that include every address in America, plus more than 200 countries and territories.

A native of Greenwood, Abney has held various positions throughout his UPS career, including division manager in New Jersey and district manager in Utah. He began his UPS career in 1974 as a part-time employee loading and unloading packages.

Over the past 100 years, UPS has emerged from a small messenger company to one of the leading providers of air, ocean, ground and electronic services. Known worldwide for its familiar brown package trucks, UPS is the leader in global supply chain management.

Prior to his current position, the Delta State business administration graduate led UPS's logistical and freight operations in Canada, Latin America and the United States. He serves as a trustee with the UPS Foundation, the company's charitable arm. He also serves on the board of the Air Transport Association and on the board of the Delta State Alumni Foundation.

UPS operates its Worldport air hub in Louisville, Kentucky and its European air hub in Cologne, Germany.

School of Business Marcelo Eduardo says he and others are delighted to welcome Mr. Abney to the Clinton campus as a key part of the executive lecture series lineup.
