Dr. Connelly came to MC in 2016. His teaching and research interests are in 20th century American history with a particular focus on religious and cultural history. He teaches survey courses on the history of the United States, a class on Historical Methods for History majors, and upper-level courses on topics like the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, and the History of Christianity. Dr. Connelly also teaches in the MC Honors College, where he developed a Senior Seminar on the theme of Vocation and Human Flourishing. He has published chapters in edited volumes on Walker Percy, the history of denominational higher education during World War II, and lament and justice in African American history. Dr. Connelly is working on a book that explores the religious dimensions of the life and work of civil rights activist Medgar Evers. The title of this forthcoming book is Righteous Struggle: A Religious Biography of Medgar Evers.
