Clinton-MC Night with the Mississippi Braves Set for April 25

Clinton businesses will team up with Mississippi College fans and students with Clinton Public Schools for an all-star lineup featured at a date with the Mississippi Braves on April 25.

A change from the annual Mississippi College Night at Trustmark Park in Pearl, the event promises to be bigger and better than ever with new additions to the team.

“Getting people with the Clinton Chamber of Commerce and Clinton Public Schools and playing big roles at Trustmark Park will make the Clinton-MC combo a surefire hit,” says Andy Kanengiser, one of the event’s organizers and MC’s university news coordinator.

“This will be a great way to promote all the good things happening in the city of Clinton, at Mississippi College and with the Clinton Public Schools,” he said. “It will be a great night for fun, fellowship and M-Braves baseball.”

Part of the lineup for the Monday night game starting at 7:05 p.m., the 2011 Miss MC Ashley Cockerham, a communication major from Alexandria, La. will toss the first pitch.  The Ambassadors show choir, an award-winning singing group from Clinton Junior High will belt out the National Anthem. The Mississippi College cheerleaders, the MC color guard, and other groups will participate in the event.

Leaders with the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, the Clinton public schools and Mississippi College are putting the finishing touches on their pre-game program and other activities at the 7,000-seat stadium to promote Clinton, MC and the Clinton district, including video on the Mississippi Braves scoreboard. Clinton’s new newspaper, “The Clinton Courier” will help promote the event at Trustmark Park.

For the Mississippi College crowd, students, faculty, staff and alumni bringing an MC identification card will get half off the evening’s admission price.

There’s also a minor league baseball game to be played. The Mississippi Braves will take on the Montgomery Biscuits that night, one of the Dollar Dog Mondays.  While gas costs are zooming upward, you can’t beat this price - $1 for a hot dog.

The special night for Clintonians and MC folks is part of a big-time promotional year at the home of the Atlanta Braves’ Southern League team.

“Our goal is to have the best and most exciting promotional lineup in all of professional baseball at Trustmark Park in 2011,” says M-Braves General Manager Steve DeSalvo as the team gets ready to start its 70-game home schedule in early April. The M-Braves will bring back fan favorites like Friday Night Fireworks and FamilyFest Sundays.

Mississippi College Nights were held at the ballpark in Rankin County for the past three years. The Clinton School District has also partnered with the Mississippi Braves for three years for a separate night at Trustmark Park. With this new partnership  with the Clinton Chamber of Commerce and MC, “we are excited to do it again,” said Sandi  Beason, the district’s public information officer.

Clinton district students, faculty and staff with an ID will get into the ballpark for half-price on April 25.
