Educational Leadership Doctorate Offers Curriculum and Instruction Option

Mississippi College’s doctorate in educational leadership is offering a new option in curriculum and instruction. Students enrolled are invited to orientation December 4 on the Clinton campus.

The sessions will run from 10 a.m. until noon in Room 401 of Lowrey Hall, home of the School of Education.

In August, the Mississippi Department of Education gave its approval for MC to offer the new concentration in curriculum and instruction. Current doctoral students will oversee Saturday’s training for the newcomers. Saturday’s orientation is designed for all 15 new students in the doctorate in educational leadership.

In July 2007, MC announced the launching of its first doctor of education degree on the Clinton campus. Today, there are 45 students taking classes.

But those numbers should climb to 60 students when the spring semester begins in January.

Eight new students were recently selected for the educational leadership doctorate with its concentration in curriculum and instruction. Seven others will begin classes in the already established educational doctorate consisting of 76 semester hours beyond the master’s degree.

MC’s program has proven to be attractive to educational professionals in the Jackson area seeking to advance their careers.

Tommye Henderson, an education professor and former superintendent of the Clinton public schools, is directing the new initiative at the MC School of Education. For more information, Henderson can be reached at hender02@mc.edu or 601.925.7768.

Professor Ruthie Stevenson coordinates the educational leadership doctorate. She can be contacted at rstevens@mc.edu or 601.925.3403.
