MC Alumni to Gather at the Southern Baptist Convention in Indianapolis
Mississippi College alumni and friends will gather for food and fellowship at the annual Southern Baptist Convention in Indianapolis in June.
MC graduates and other supporters of the Christian university in Clinton will meet at the Indiana Convention Center on June 10. The two-hour event begins at 8 p.m. in the Sagamore Ballroom One in the building's second level.
MC President Lee Royce will be among the speakers at the social gathering that features chocolate river cookies, brownies and fruit. There is no admission charge.
Founded in 1845 in Augusta, Ga., the Southern Baptist Convention is comprised of 16 million members attending more than 42,000 churches in the United States. The convention represents 1,200 local associations in 41 states. The 2008 SBC convention is June 10-11.
Royce is expected to discuss MC's $65 million "Growing the Vision'' campaign to upgrade academic programs, enhance scholarships and boost building projects. So far, the campaign announced in Fall 2006 has produced more than $58 million in donations.
Entering his seventh year as MC's leader, Royce will be on hand to field questions and discuss other MC campus developments as the 2008-2009 academic year begins in August. MC enrolls a record 4,600 students, including 330 from two dozen nations.
The SBC gathering of MC alums and other supporters in Indiana follows a successful May 3 alumni meeting in Atlanta that featured Royce as guest speaker. Founded in 1826, Baptist-affiliated Mississippi College has more than 30,000 alumni around the nation.
