Jim Miller and Stephanie Gandy find their Mississippi College workload keeps expanding as MC prepares for its 2016 Career Day.

The event on February 16 will bring nearly 100 employers to the Clinton campus to meet with hundreds of job-seeking students and recent graduates.

It’s the first time Miller and Gandy are teaming up as the new interim co-directors of MC’s Office of Career Services.

Employers will soon size up students as the USA economy continues to brighten with the nation’s unemployment rate shrinking to 5 percent.

MC leaders believe the 2016 Career Day will be a success with these two energetic administrators running things. Announced in January, their appointment to lead the office on the third floor of Nelson Hall will benefit the Clinton campus year-round.

“Stephanie Gandy and Jim Miller are doing a great job for our MC students,” says Jim Turcotte, vice president for enrollment services and dean of students. “They regularly meet with our students to go over resumes, conduct interview coaching and many other activities to help our students get jobs.”

As co-directors, they also spend time off campus building relationships with company recruiters, Turcotte noted.

A Mississippi College graduate, Gandy has served as coordinator of on-campus student employment and internships since August 2014. As an MC undergraduate, the Ridgeland resident served as a student intern at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and Mission First in Jackson.

A graduate of the University of Mississippi, Miller is seeking a master’s in higher education administration at Mississippi College. He’s served as assistant director of Career Services after working at the MC English Department.

Miller and Gandy have stayed pretty busy since MC began its 190th academic year in August 2015. They have reviewed more than 1,145 resumes, letters, applications and other documents since then. They’ve sat down to chat with many MC students stopping by the Career Services office. The pace never slows down.

At the moment, Career Day sits at the top of their agenda. Coming to Mississippi College on February 16 will be a broad range of company recruiters, Miller said. They will represent school districts, law enforcement, government agencies, financial firms, healthcare and other sectors of the economy. The four-hour event that Tuesday at Anderson Hall begins at 10 a.m. and is sponsored by the MC Office of Career Services.
