Miss MC Scholarship Pageant Set for February 24

Miss MC is set for February 24 at 7 p.m.

Mississippi College’s 2017 Miss MC Scholarship Pageant will attract nine contestants on the Clinton campus.

Up for grabs at the February 24 show will be the top scholarship of $2,500, with $1,000 going to the runner-up. The third-place finisher at the pageant receives $500.

Making matters more fun this year will be competition featuring each contestant in a 40-second commercial focusing on Mississippi College.

The pageant winner will showcase the Baptist-affiliated university at key MC events for months to come.

“My goal as student director of the pageant is to really get a true ambassador for our university that can speak to the community and represent the student body at multiple events on campus,” said MC senior Mary Elizabeth Stringer of Tylertown.

The pageant is set for 7 p.m. Friday evening at Swor Auditorium.

Tickets will go on sale in the MC cafeteria starting Monday and running through Friday from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. Tickets cost $7 for MC students, faculty and staff and $10 for others in the MC pageant audience. Tickets also can be purchased online at www.mc.edu/missmc

The pageant winner will receive other prizes including a $100 gift card to the James & Leigh clothing store in Clinton and three personal training session at the Baptist Healthplex. There will be gift cards and other items going to the first and second runner-ups, too.

In addition, there will be nice honors to contestants, including the student with the highest grade point average as well as the Miss Congeniality award.

Mary Elizabeth has been focused on making the pageant a success since the Fall 2016. The Nenamoosha Social Tribe president, Stringer and other organizers predict the contest’s judges will have a tough assignment picking a winner.

Contestants like Rachel Lawrence, 19, of Sandhill, Mississippi will give it her best shot as the person chosen to represent Mississippi College.

“I love MC because it truly is a Christian, loving personal environment that is just so welcoming,” Rachel said. She’s a biology/pre-med major.

Contestant Sallie Kaye Streeter, a sophomore from Madison, is a music education major delighted to be part of the event. “I thought it would be a great experience to get involved and get to know the other girls,” says Streeter, a member of the Nenamoosha Social Tribe. She loves the close-knit family atmosphere at the Christian university. “I see so many familiar faces on campus,” adds the member of the MC Singers.

MC freshman Halle Leggett, 19, a nursing major, entered the pageant to connect more with other undergraduates. She wants to “grow relationships with my sisters in Christ while doing what I love.”

Mississippi College junior Jesse Bingham, 20, a public relations major from Terry, will also be seeking the crown. “To be Miss MC would be an incredible privilege,” she said. “I love MC because it has always felt like home for me.”

Other contestants include: Muriel Collins of Union, Lydia Myers of Laurel, Haley McDonald of Pelahatchie, Jordan Harper of Pearl and Sydney Thigpen of Trussville, Ala.
