Professor Robert Perkins Writes Book on Business and Christian Ethics

Mississippi College professor Robert Perkins teaches an innovative class on faith, ethics and the business world. It’s among the cornerstones of the curriculum for MC students at the School of Business each year.

Given his compelling insights about the topic, it wasn’t a big leap for the Mississippian to pen a new book going beyond his lectures in Self Hall.

The book is titled “Theistic Ethics: A Christian Approach to Business Ethics.” His work is available on Amazon in paperback format for $35. Shipping is free, and copies should arrive for readers in early September.

MC School of Business Dean Marcelo Eduardo is proud of the talented professor for sharing his knowledge in a book rolling off the presses this summer.

“The book that he has written is a reflection of what our business students learn at MC,” Eduardo said. It is “a critical part of our mission to develop outstanding business professionals in a Christian environment.”

Leaders at the Christian university see the new book as an integral part of the annual Faith & Ethics Week series on the Clinton campus. It is a popular activity the School of Business sponsors every February with distinguished business leaders speaking to students.

The book offers an ethical framework for Christians to daily put into practice in the workplace. Its ethical framework focuses on God as the source of all knowledge. The book points to the struggles and challenges that people regularly encounter in the business community.

The text examines cases of ethical decisions that often crop up in USA workplaces. It offers readers sound advice for responding to ethical issues by taking into account God’s teachings.

The 235-page paperback spotlights subjects as timely as today’s headlines. But Christian ethics linked to economics and business is part of a long tradition dating back centuries.

School of Business professors are sure to make his book must reading. Robert Perkins devoted long hours to the project. At the same time, he taught business classes, while making his family in Clinton and faith his priorities.

“We are certainly proud to have Bobby in our business faculty,” Dean Eduardo said.

Dr. Perkins joined the MC School of Business faculty in 2013. His areas of expertise include law, ethics and insurance. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Mississippi and is a graduate of the MC School of Law in Jackson.

Perkins is a member of First Baptist Church Jackson. He served many years with the Mississippi Department of Insurance in Jackson before joining the Mississippi College family as a professor.
