Thursday Book Sales Benefit Leland Speed Library

Book lovers of all ages are invited to shop for bargains at Mississippi College’s Leland Speed Library.

There are plenty of opportunities this fall and into the spring. MC’s library along College Street is hosting a book bazaar in the Bookend Alley every first Thursday of the month.

Readers who enjoy paperbacks, hardback fiction, devotionals, children’s stories and other genres should find plenty of items on sale.

The first major sale at Bookend Alley is Thursday September 3 from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. in the alley between the Speed Library and Aven Hall. Plenty of balloons and signs will lead the way.

“We’re real excited about doing this once a month,” says library director Kathleen Hutchison. “This will be really fun.”

For those missing out, future MC book sales will be October 1, November 5 and December 3.

Prices are rock bottom. Hardbacks go for $2 and paperbacks sell for $1. In addition, there will be higher priced coffee table books for sale.

The event is open to the MC family and members of the community.

Proceeds from the monthly event will enhance library services for Mississippi College faculty, staff and students, says Paula Brown, a Leland Speed Library staff member. It can help pay for such things as newspaper subscriptions, computer monitors and activities for students during MC’s exam week.

The items on sale are typically books donated by the public.

Leland Speed Library patrons can watch for the latest announcements on the MC library’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
