William R. "Bill" Townsend serves as Vice President and General Counsel at Mississippi College. Bill has a wide range of experience in higher education. He has worked in student affairs as the Director of Baptist Student Union and Religious Activities and as an admissions counselor/ recruiter. He spent 12 years in legal education as Assisstant Dean at Mississippi College School of Law and as the Director of the National Center for Justice and the Rule of Law at the University of Mississippi School of Law. He has nearly 20 years of experience as a vice president at three different universities with responsibilities for all aspects of fundraising, alumni affairs, corporate relations, planned giving, public relations, church relations, university publications, admissions, enrollment and financial aid.   

In his current position as Vice President and General Counsel, he is responsible for all legal affairs of the university and offers counsel on a broad array of university legal, compliance, policy, and governance issues. Bill enjoys speaking and consulting on a variety of higher education topics, particularly those related to Christian higher education.
