After completing two active-duty tours with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Christian Patterson joins MC as an Assistant Professor of Communication. Patterson most recently served as ERDC’s 12th Commander and was stationed at the organization’s headquarters in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Prior to his tenure as commander, the Jackson native was ERDC’s Director of Communications, providing leadership and vision of the enterprise’s communications community.

Patterson possesses a Doctor of Philosophy in Communication degree from Liberty University; Master of Business Administration degree from Belhaven University; Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication degree from Louisiana State University and A&M College; Associate in Arts in Radio, TV and Film degree from Hinds Community College; and a Professional Certificate in Strategic Communication and Leadership from Seton Hall University. In addition, he received his Accreditation in Public Relations + Military Communication credential, October 3, 2012, from the Public Relations Society of America's Universal Accreditation Board in New York.

As the recipient of numerous awards in public affairs and journalism, Patterson will lead the department’s growing journalism program and will spearhead the launch of the new Master of Science degree in Public Affairs Communication.

The decorated Army officer is a veteran of deployments in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Kosovo. Patterson currently serves as the Director of Innovation for the 75th U.S. Army Reserve Innovation Command, headquartered in Houston.

Patterson and his wife, Latrice, and his children, Avery and Sam, live in Clinton.
