Samantha Renshaw joined MC Law in 2026 as an Assistant Professor on the Tenure Track. She currently teaches Property, and will be teaching Cybersecurity, Space Law, and Intellectual Property. Professor Renshaw received her JD from the University of Alabama School of Law, graduating magna cum laude. At Alabama, she served as a Senior Editor for the Law and Psychology Review, competed on the Bruce Siegal Intellectual Property Moot Court Team, and received the Pro Bono Student Award for her service during school. Additionally, Professor Renshaw is a member of the Order of the Coif.
Professor Renshaw’s scholarly research centers on the intersection of law and technology. Previous publications explore the application of international law to cyberwarfare and the interactions of modern political agreements regarding space program cooperation with existing law. She seeks to continue exploring emerging technologies and their interaction with domestic and international law, such as the deployment of nuclear reactors on the Moon, the regulation of blockchain technologies, and the implications of using copyrighted materials to train generative AI models. Professor Renshaw also regularly contributes to The SciTech Lawyer, a quarterly magazine published by the ABA’s Science and Technology Section.
Originally from Northeast Arkansas, Professor Samantha Renshaw attended Arkansas State University, where she received a B.A. in General Music and a B.S. in Creative Media Production. Prior to attending law school, she taught music courses at the Kenya Baptist Theological College in Limuru, Kenya, and managed land records for the Craighead County Circuit Clerk's office. As a practicing attorney, Professor Rensahw worked in nuclear energy regulation, privacy and data security law, tort litigation, landlord-tenant law, and numerous other areas for various projects and pro bono clients. She also served on the Junior Board for Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham and received the inaugural "Rising Star" award for her dedication to pro bono service in the greater Birmingham Community. Outside of work, Professor Renshaw enjoys spending time with her fiance Carter, dog Cooper, and cat Bb. She also enjoys running and taekwondo, in which she is a third degree black belt.
