Alumni Golf Tournament Set for MC Homecoming

Alumni Golf Tournament Set for MC Homecoming

Mississippi College’s 2020 Homecoming lineup will include a friendly tournament at Patrick Farms Golf Club.

At least 50 golfers signed up for the October 23 event on the course in Pearl. The event begins at noon.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only two major events are scheduled for the Mississippi College Homecoming. They are Friday’s golf tournament and Saturday’s Hap Hudson 5K road race in Clinton.

Patrick Farms staffers successfully hosted several golf tournaments in recent months during the nation’s coronavirus outbreak.

The golf course in Rankin County strictly follows all Centers for Disease Control guidelines, such as social distancing, to keep golfers safe.

“We are having it because it is a safe socially distanced outside event,” says MC administrator Chad Phillips. The MC graduate serves as associate director for alumni and parent engagement.

In addition to the MC Office of Alumni Affairs, there are 13 tournament sponsors. They include the Bank of Brookhaven, C-Spire, Stringer Industries, Gray Daniels Ford, the Trehern Charitable Foundation, Trustmark, Campus Dining, and Century Construction.

Other activity sponsors are JD’s Flying Service, Community Bank, Huffman & Company, Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, and Vermeer Mid-South.

The afternoon tournament is always a hit with MC graduates and school supporters at the 200-acre course at 300 Clubhouse Drive. Randy Watkins designed the 18-hole Patrick Farms. The scenic semi-private course opened in 1999.

The tournament is open to Mississippi College alumni, students and guests. RSVP is required, and the cost is $60. The registration fee includes green fees, cart rental, range balls, and lunch. The top three teams win prizes.

Bad weather canceled last year’s golf tournament.

President Blake Thompson, National Alumni Board Association President, and trustee Tony Stringer are among the MC leaders attending. Jim Turcotte, vice president for enrollment services and executive director of Alumni Affairs, will also make the rounds greeting MC supporters.
