Broadmoor Baptist Church Pastor Rob Futral Named Young Alumnus of the Year

International mission opportunities led Dr. Rob Futral to Mexico, England, Russia, Honduras, West Africa and other places around the globe.

But the pastor at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison is always delighted to drive along the Natchez Trace Parkway and return home to his alma mater, Mississippi College.

“My experience and education at MC provided a great foundation for ministry and for life,” said Futral, a 1993 Mississippi College graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Christian Studies. “I draw daily on lessons learned, skills developed and relationships cultivated at MC.”

Futral will return home once again to attend an awards banquet during Mississippi College’s Homecoming on Oct. 15. He will be back on the Clinton campus to accept the university’s Young Alumnus of the Year Award for 2010 at the Friday dinner at 6 p.m. in Anderson Hall.

“I am honored and humbled to have been chosen for the Young Alumnus of the Year,” Futral said. “I am particularly glad to still be considered young!” he joked. “In all seriousness, there are so many people who are much more deserving of this award than I am.”

A Texas native, Futral has served as pastor at Broadmoor Baptist Church since September 2003. The vision statement of the church that Rob leads is Passionately Pursuing God’s Vision for Life. He says he feels very fortunate to serve such a great group of people.

Futral’s family came to the Jackson area in 1985 when his father became Broadmoor’s pastor in 1985.

He graduated from Madison-Ridgeland High School before coming to MC. Dr. Futral also holds a master of divinity in Biblical languages and doctor of philosophy in New Testament and Greek from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served churches in Louisiana and Mississippi before returning to Broadmoor in 2003.

In addition to his pastoral duties, Futral serves on the Blue Mountain College Board of Trustees. He’s a member of the Board of Training Pastors International and is active with the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi. Hobbies include traveling, hunting, running, playing sports and reading.

Outside of his love for God, Futral says that his wife, Kimandria, and their children, Trea, Ridge and Rivers, are his most important relationships.

MC Alumni Association Director Ross Aven says Futral was a superb choice for the award, but points out the competition was keen again this year.  Narrowing down the list to one person, he said, was pretty tough.

“I’m not certain what qualifies me for the honor,” Futral said. “But I am grateful to be an alum of Mississippi College.”
