Mississippi College students crafted 200 new Christmas ornaments going on sale soon. And the public is invited to purchase these delightful holiday season stocking stuffers.

The MC Art Department will sponsor the sale in the school cafeteria on the Clinton campus. The event begins November 26 and wraps up November 30.

Last year’s ornament event raised $1,000. Funds will be used to help MC students attend the 2019 National Art Education Association Convention in Boston March 14-16.

Cost of the MC holiday ornaments this year is $7 each.

The 9th annual event at Mississippi College is the place for people to find bargains. It’s also a nice way to avoid traffic jams and the heavy turnout of Christmas shoppers at area malls.

Each year, MC art students design hundreds of clay ornaments in the kiln on the ground floor of the Aven Fine Arts Building.

Ornaments have featured crosses, manger scenes, the Magnolia State, Santa Claus and MC arrowheads in recent years. Dove designs, deer and angel designs are popular items, too, says art professor Stephanie Busbea.

Busbea serves as faculty advisor to the Mississippi College chapter of the National Art Education Association based in Alexandria, Virginia. She’s the Art Department’s assistant chair.

The association’s annual conferences offer hundreds of workshops, seminars and learning opportunities for students as well as educators.

Hours for this year’s sale at Mississippi College on November 26-29 will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. -7 p.m. The sale’s final day is November 30 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
