Family Weekend at Mississippi College, September 21-22

Back by popular demand, Mississippi College’s Family Weekend offers a nice lineup of events ranging from Choctaws athletic contests to an ice cream social and visits to Olde Towne Clinton.

The activities September 21-22 open the door for parents and other family members to spend quality time with their favorite MC students.

Tailgating, worship time and the opportunity to meet new President Blake Thompson, it’s all good for that Fall weekend.

The marathon of events on the Clinton campus begins with 2 p.m. registration that Friday in the Alumni Hall lobby. One hour later, Parent University is booked with Mom & Dad invited to take their seats at a diverse selection of academic classrooms.

Other notable events in the 2018 MC Family Weekend lineup include “Pops with the Prez” at the Phillips House at 4 p.m. Dr. Thompson and his wife, Jana, will be in the house to make all visitors feel welcome.

The night is highlighted with an MC Lady Choctaws volleyball game at the A.E. Wood Coliseum at 6 p.m. The Lady Choctaws that Friday will face Gulf South Conference rival Union University of Jackson, Tennessee. The evening will wrap up with dinner and a movie in Olde Towne Clinton starting at 7 p.m.

After being away for a few years, the first day of MC’s 2018 Family Weekend in late September promises to be special. But there’s more to come. Saturday’s activities start with a 10 a.m. coffee with MC deans and vice presidents in the Piazza.

A 10:30 a.m. worship service for visitors at the Aven Fine Arts Building will be followed by a noon lunch in the Piazza. The menu will consist of delicious food from Clinton restaurants.

There will be plenty of time for family members to tour the Clinton campus, and shop at wonderful stores along Clinton’s Brick Streets. One cool event that shouldn’t be missed is an ice cream social (at 3 p.m.) sponsored by the Campus Activities Board.

Next up: a tailgating feast on the Quad, the Choctaw Walk to greet MC football players and then gridiron action at Robinson-Hale Stadium.

MC’s football game against Gulf South Conference foe West Florida kicks off at 7 p.m. The contests will be televised by ESPN 3.

Playing in last year’s NCAA Division II championship game, West Florida was ranked No. 1 in some sports magazine pre-season polls. The Argonauts opened the 2018 campaign with a 19-9 win over #22 Carson-Newman. Coach John Bland’s Choctaws began their new season on August 30 with a thrilling 31-30 triumph over visiting Clark Atlanta.

MC staffers Jonathan Nutt (of the Office of Student Development) and Becca Benson (of the Office of Student Engagement) continue to work hard to make the 2018 Family Weekend the best ever. Parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, cousins, and other relatives in the Blue & Gold family are invited to join the fun in Clinton.
