Jennifer McGill Joins Career Services Team

Jennifer McGill is the new assistant director of Mississippi College’s Office of Career Services.
The 28-year-old Arkansas native began her new duties in mid-January at a Nelson Hall office that helps meet the career needs of thousands of MC students and alumni.
The position is a great fit for McGill, who brings higher education experience from Arkansas Tech University and Belhaven University in Jackson.
“Working with college students and young adults to develop them into what they were born to be is what I’m passionate about,” McGill said.
McGill is a Madison resident who until recently worked as assistant director of graduate admissions at Belhaven. She previously held positions as a student support services advisor and an assistant to the counseling center director at Arkansas Tech, her alma mater in Russellville.
Karen Lindsey-Lloyd, the director of Retention and Career Services at MC, is pleased to welcome McGill to her busy team on the third floor of Nelson Hall.
“Jennifer brings a servant’s heart and a passion for college students to this position,” Lindsey-Lloyd said. “I know the students will enjoy working with her.”
With the growth of students, alumni and employers requesting assistance from Career Services, McGill will stay on the go helping with resume reviews, handling interview coaching, touching base with companies and much more.
McGill received her bachelor’s degree in speech communication in 2006 and a master’s in college student personnel in 2008, both from Arkansas Tech. She also brings two years of experience working in the oil and gas industry in Arkansas.
The wife of Shawn McGill, a youth pastor at a church in Ridgeland, Jennifer McGill enjoys playing the piano and singing at church functions. Camping in the Ozarks in Arkansas remains one of her favorite hobbies.
Asked about her long-term plans, McGill says her dream is to become a college professor.
But right now the Career Services staffer is excited to become one of the newest members of the Mississippi College family. “It’s thrilling to be working at a Christian university,” McGill said. “It’s great to be able to live out your faith openly.”
At the moment, Lindsey-Lloyd, McGill, assistant director Hayley Taff and other staff are gearing up for Career Day 2012 at Anderson Hall. The annual event on February 7 puts employers in touch with hundreds of MC students. For more information, call 601.925.3901.
