Mississippi College has found its niche among the nation’s finest Christian institutions of higher learning, according to a website considered the “market leader” in connecting colleges and schools with students and families.

Niche, a data and review company that has helped millions of students from K-12 through graduate school discover and connect with the best learning institutions in the U.S., has ranked Mississippi College No. 10 in its “Best Christian Colleges in America” list for 2023.

MC earned an overall grade of “A-“ from Niche’s data scientists and user researchers, who employed advanced algorithms and statistical techniques to compare, normalize, and connect millions of data points to develop the best colleges ranking.

Dr. Keith Elder, MC provost and executive vice president, said the university’s strong national showing on Niche’s ranking of leading Christian colleges confirmed the good work being done at the Christian University.

“I am not surprised (by the ranking), however, I am thankful for the national awareness and recognition,” Elder said. “MC excels by adhering to scripture, commitment to service, and loving each other.

“The ranking can potentially bring greater awareness about the excellence of MC.”

Niche’s rankings are based upon key statistics and student reviews using data from the U.S. Department of Education. To be considered a top-ranked Christian college, the institution must offer students an education and college experience rooted in Christian traditions and faith.

Not only did Mississippi College land on the Christian College Top 10 listing, but Niche also ranked MC at No. 20 for “Best Colleges for Kinesiology and Physical Therapy in America,” No. 30 for “Best Colleges for Criminal Justice in America,” and No. 48 for “Best Colleges for Design in America.” The rankings placed MC atop the state’s other institutions of higher learning in each respective category.

“The rankings inform prospective students and parents that MC is sincere about our commitment to the cause of Christ and living it out daily,” Elder said. “MC is a great place, and the more people know about it, the greater impact we can have.”

Niche considered almost 500,000 college reviews from students and relied on an algorithm that collected data from the U.S. Department of Education, the National Science Foundation, and other trustworthy sources to provide the most transparent, complete view of the nation’s schools.

Its rankings and grades were calculated using a series of steps that ensured statistical rigor and useful guidance in the college choice experience. Grades were assigned based on how each school performed compared to all other schools included in the rankings. The rankings were published on Aug. 26.

Mississippi College also fared well on Niche’s lists of “Best Small Colleges in America” (No. 58 overall and No. 1 in the state), “Best Colleges for Education in America” (No. 63 overall and No. 1 in the state), “Best Colleges for Public Policy in America” (No. 63 overall and No. 1 in the state), “Best Colleges for Sports Management in America” (No. 69 overall and No. 3 in the state), and “Best Colleges for Religious Studies in America” (No. 70 overall and No. 2 in the state).
