MC Graduate Karei McDonald Awarded Top Cop Honor

Mississippi College graduate Karei McDonald is one of the state's leading law enforcement officers.

The proof? McDonald was among the recipients of the state's “Top Cop” honor from the Mississippi Center for Police and Sheriffs on May 13.

At the 5th annual awards program at Police Memorial and Appreciation Day in Jackson, McDonald joined about 30 other law enforcement recipients statewide.

An MC accounting graduate, McDonald serves as an investigative special agent with the State Auditor's Office. The Flowood resident has worked at the Jackson-based agency the past five years.

“Karei played a critical role in the state auditor's office in an investigation of a corruption ring where employees of a state agency were conspiring to embezzle from the taxpayers of Mississippi,” said State Auditor Stacey Pickering.

“We are fortunate to have Karei's knowledge and experience in our office as we work to protect Mississippi taxpayers,” Pickering added.

The MC School of Business graduate received the honor during ceremonies at the Mississippi Trade Mart.

“I appreciate the support of Auditor Pickering and his administration in receiving this distinguished honor,” McDonald said.

A former state senator, Pickering was first elected state auditor in 2007 and began serving as auditor in January 2008. Since then, his office has recovered $3.6 million in embezzled, misspent or misappropriated funds.
