Mississippi College Graduates Receive Awards in Clinton Public Schools

Clinton School District Superintendent Phil Burchfield and the district's Administrator of the Year for 2016-17 John Wallace

Mississippi College graduates John Wallace and Marcy McDonald received major awards because of their stellar work as educators in the Clinton Public School District.

Wallace is the latest to become the Clinton district’s Administrator of the Year for 2016-17. McDonald is the district’s new Teacher of the Year.

Superintendent Phil Burchfield led the chorus of Clinton leaders saluting the two outstanding educators.

“Mr. Wallace is respected by faculty, staff and students at Sumner Hill Junior High,” Burchfield said. John has led the school since August 2014 after serving as its assistant principal from 2012-14. He’s taught sixth through ninth graders at the Clinton Alternative School from 2005 through 2012.

Wallace received his bachelor’s, master’s and educational special degrees at Mississippi College.

John and his wife, Hannah, a staff member with MC’s Department of Public Relations, are the parents of two daughters, ZZ and Ivy Wallace. There are other prominent Blue & Gold ties in the Wallace family. Hannah is a 2006 MC graduate. The family lives in Clinton and attends Pinelake Church where John serves as a deacon.

The Clinton district’s leadership team was delighted to salute McDonald for her solid performance at Eastside Elementary as a math and science teacher since August 2008. She also oversees the Punt, Pass & Kick fund-raising event at the school.

Marcy brings an amazing amount of energy to the job she cherishes.

McDonald “shows her love for her school, the district and the children daily,” Principal Cindy Hamil said.

Marcy McDonald becomes devoted to the needs of the kids in her classroom the minute she walks in the door on the Clinton campus. “I believe that learning is the foundation for all minor and major successes in life,” she said.

McDonald received her bachelor’s degree from Mississippi College in elementary education and two master’s degrees from MC as well.

Wallace and McDonald will get ready to compete for statewide education honors in 2017.
