Mississippi College Supporters Gather at 2018 Southern Baptist Convention in Dallas

Vice President for Advancement Bill Townsend

The Southern Baptist Convention represents more than 50,000 churches making an impact for God’s Kingdom.

Thousands of SBC leaders will gather for the organization’s 2018 meeting in Dallas, Texas. Mississippi College supporters will join the activities in the Lone Star State with a June 12 reception at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.

MC alumni, family, friends and others from the Baptist-affiliated university will make the journey. They are invited to sample the delicious food at the reception from 5-7 p.m. that Tuesday at the center’s Room C141 on Level 1. Visitors will also receive an update on activities at the 5,200-student university founded in 1826. MC’s big news is President-elect Blake Thompson will succeed retiring President Lee Royce on July 1.

Mississippi College will be among several institutions welcoming school alumni and friends at the Southern Baptist Convention in Dallas. Samford University of Birmingham, Alabama, Union University of Jackson, Tennessee, Louisiana College, Mid-America Seminary of Missouri and Gateway Seminary of California will be well-represented as well.

The MC Alumni Association will sponsor the two-hour reception. Vice President for Advancement Bill Townsend, Chad Phillips, the university’s digital media and communications manager, as well as admissions staffers will be there. About 100 members of the Mississippi College family are expected to be on hand at the convention. For more than 170 years, SBC leaders proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people from all over the globe.

Mississippi College supporters will return for similar gatherings at the 2019 Southern Baptist Convention in Birmingham, Alabama, the 2020 SBC meetings in Orlando, Florida and again in 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Summer of 2018 should be a busy season for the Mississippi College family. MC supporters convene for an Alumni Dinner in Washington, D.C. on June 14, and join the fun for Mississippi on the Mall festivities in Washington on June 16. MC alumni and friends gather for Mississippi Day in the Park activities in Atlanta on June 23.
