Mississippi College alumni welcome President Blake Thompson at Spring events in Oxford and Tupelo.

MC’s 20th president, Dr. Thompson has led the Baptist-affiliated university since July 1, 2018. The Rienzi native served as a vice president at The Ohio State University for nine years before coming to MC. President Thompson was inaugurated on the Clinton campus on March 29.

President Thompson will serve as the keynote speaker at an Alumni Association event at Bill and Carole Dye’s home at 233 Saint Andrew’s Circle in Oxford. The April 29 dinner begins at 6 p.m. that Monday at their residence.

Bill Dye was honored at Homecoming as Mississippi College’s 2018 Alumnus of the Year. He served for 36 years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Oxford before retiring in 2004. Both Bill and his wife, Carole, a retired educator, remain active in their community in Lafayette County. For more than 65 years, Bill has remained a faithful supporter of his alma mater in Clinton.

MC alumni and friends interested in attending the dinner should RSVP to Bill Dye at 662-234-5864 or go to the university’s website at alumni.mc.edu/oxford2019

The Dye home is located less than a mile from the University of Mississippi. Visitors can expect to be well fed that evening with a casserole, salad, sweet tea, desserts and more. Area pastors are among those planning to attend the event.

It will mark Dr. Thompson’s first visit to the Dye residence for what’s become a wonderful evening for fellowship for MC alumni and friends in North Mississippi for more than a dozen years.

President Thompson will also serve as the keynote speaker at a May 16 alumni gathering in Tupelo. The MC Alumni Association will team with Bradley and Dr. Malinda N. Prewitt for an event that Thursday at 6:30 p.m. It will be held at Bradley Prewitt’s law office at 215 North Church Street.

The cost for the Tupelo event is $10 per person. It is payable at the door or online by going to www.alumni.mc.edu/tupelo2019. Guests can receive more information or RSVP by contacting Lisa Williams of the MC Alumni Association at 205-332-4100 or lwilliam@mc.edu
