Audiences across the globe love fairy tales like Cinderella, the Little Mermaid & Sleeping Beauty.

Mississippi College students will be the stars in an upcoming opera production that spotlights a portion of the famous fairy tale “Hansel and Gretel.”

The MC Opera Theatre will present “Happily Ever Opera: A Rendering of Fairy Tales” on the Clinton campus November 1-4.

Characters include the loveable Hansel and Gretel, a witch with far too much sugar at her disposal, a singing horse and an enchanting princess seeking true love.

The opera also features the lesser-known story of “The Goose Girl.”

Mississippi College students have staged opera productions dating back decades on the Clinton campus. MC music instructor Mandy Spivak-Perna says she anticipates the production will bring smiles to the faces of theatre patrons. Happy endings are expected to happen on stage at this MC Music Department production.

The student cast has yet to be named.

Everybody, it seems, enjoys fairy tales produced by the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen and other writers. Stories of the Arabian Nights, Rapunzel and many more fairy tales remain popular in children’s books in 2018.

Tickets for the MC Opera Theatre production cost $10 for adults and $5 for students from any school. Tickets can be purchased at the door outside the Jean Pittman Williams Recital Hall prior to each show.

Performances begin at 7 p.m. for shows November 1-3. The program on Sunday November 4 is set to start at 3 p.m.
