Music lovers who admire two of the world’s most celebrated composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Robert Schumann, are in for a treat at Mississippi College.

The music of Mozart and Schumann will be featured at the Sclater Chamber Music Series on February 7. The Friday evening concert in the Jean Pittman Williams Recital Hall will showcase performances by MC music professors. The program begins at 7:30 p.m.

MC Music Department Chair Angela Willoughby will be featured on the piano to perform the Schumann Piano Quintet Op. 4. A German composer, Schumann died in Bonn in 1856. He was considered one of the greatest composers of the Romantic Era.

Joining Willoughby on stage in Aven Hall will be Vince Massimino on violin, Ausra Jasineviciute on viola and Veronica Parales on cello.

Also that winter evening, MC music instructor Tyler Kemp on piano will be joined by his wife Shellie Brown Kemp on violin. The Mississippi couple will perform Messiaen Theme and Variations. It is one of the works of the late Olivier Messiaen, a French pianist and composer.

Three musicians will combine their talents to perform the selection Mozart Kegelstatt Trio K. 498. Featured will be Ken Graves on piano, Hristo Hristov on viola and Steven Sachs on piano. A truly gifted Austrian composer, Mozart died in Vienna in 1791.

The concert series is named in honor of award-winning Clinton composer James Sclater. He served on the MC Music Department faculty for 40 years before retiring in 2010. Dr. Sclater has taught and mentored scores of MC graduates in the music field.

Tickets for the concert cost $20 for adults. The price is $5 for students from any school. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the Clinton campus.
