Sporting Clay Shooters Flock to Providence Hill Farm

Wayne Parker Memorial Sporting Clay Shoot

Sporting clay shooters from Central Mississippi and beyond are invited to show off their skills at Providence Hill Farm.

The third annual Wayne Parker Memorial Sporting Clay Shoot is set for Monday April 11. Proceeds will benefit the Mississippi College Sporting Clays Team. The cost is $150 per shooter and that fee includes a light breakfast and lunch.

Located about 15 minutes from the Clinton campus, Providence Hill Farm remains the home of a duck flush, 13-station course, along with a skeet and trap range. The event at the 2,000-acre farm at 2600 Carley Road begins with 8 a.m. registration.

Mississippi College launched its student squad of clay shooters in Fall 2010. Headquartered at Providence Hill Farm, the team is coached by Jimmy Grant, an avid outdoorsman and Mississippi State University alumnus.

Jim Turcotte, vice president for enrollment services and dean of students, is delighted to see MC partner with the Clinton Chamber of Commerce once again to make this event happen. The sporting clay shoot is named for the late Wayne Parker, a successful Mississippi businessman who faithfully served the Christian university as a trustee and philanthropist.

“It will provide much needed funding for our student organization,” Turcotte said.

MC’s sporting clay team remains on target to enjoy another solid season this spring.

“Our team will once again compete in San Antonio next month and we are optimistic about our talent,” Turcotte said in mid-February.

The Clinton resident oversees sporting clays, the equestrian team, bass fishing squad and archery team at Mississippi College.
