UMC Nursing Dean Dr. Kim Hoover Speaks at Mississippi College Graduation

Dr. Kim Hoover, the University of Mississippi School of Nursing dean and a professor on the Jackson campus, will be the keynote speaker at Mississippi College’s School of Nursing graduation.
The event is set for December 16 beginning at 11 a.m. in Swor Auditorium. Thirty-five MC nursing students are expected to receive degrees on the Clinton campus that Friday morning.
Dr. Hoover was appointed UMC nursing dean in October 2010. She also serves as a professor at UMC’s School of Health Related Professions. She’s directed Magnet Research Initiatives for University Hospitals and Clinics and serves on the Governor’s Task Force on Nursing Retention and Graduation.
In addition, Dr. Hoover recently finished a three-year program as an Executive Nurse Fellow with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The Mississippian was instrumental in the building of the Mississippi Office of Nursing Workforce.
The UMC educator earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Northeast Louisiana University at Monroe and served eight years on the nursing staff at Natchez Regional Medical Center. Hoover received her master’s degree in nursing from UMC in 1994 and a doctorate in clinical health sciences in 2000. A former Alcorn State University nursing professor, she joined the UMC faculty in 2003.
Launched in 1948 in Oxford, the School of Nursing moved to the UMC campus in Jackson in 1956. Since then, the UMC School of Nursing has graduated more than 2,000 students.
