U.S. News and World Report, one of the most respected digital media publishers of consumer advice, rankings and analysis of education, has included the Mississippi College School of Education and Human Sciences the MC School of Law among its “2026 Best Graduate Schools” rankings. U.S. News released its listings on April 7.

MC was ranked as the top private university in the state for education. Schools were assessed on their performance across a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence, including expert opinion on program excellence and statistical data measuring the quality of a school’s academic productivity and postgraduate outcomes.

Data for the rankings came from statistical surveys of more than 2,000 programs and reputation surveys sent to more than 20,000 academics and professionals.

Rachel Peeples, interim chair and professor in the Department of Teacher Education and Leadership at MC, said the rankings represent a significant achievement for the School of Education and Human Sciences.

“The rankings are one of the most widely recognized benchmarks in higher education,” Peeples said. “Being listed sets MC apart in a competitive higher education landscape and reinforces the School of Education and Human Sciences as a trusted contributor to the educational pipeline, both statewide and nationally.

“It shows prospective students that we are a high-quality, mission-driven alternative for their graduate degree programs.”

She said the listing acknowledges the good work of MC faculty and leadership during a time of program redesign, curriculum alignment and a call for increased rigor in graduate programs.

“Current students can be proud of their degrees and what they have gained by being a part of the MC family, and prospective students can see that MC is a trusted leader in educator preparation and a university that can help them grow as teachers and leaders,” Peeples said.

The Master of Education Program at MC offers students a variety of tracks, from traditional to online degree options. Accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, the Department of Teacher Education and Leadership at MC offers master’s and doctoral degree programs that refine students’ skills and enhance their effectiveness in their chosen professions.
