With student success in mind amid the disruption to teaching and learning due to COVID-19, academic policy will be adjusted to provide a Pass/Fail grading option. Students will have the option to keep the grade assigned by their instructor, or convert the grade according to the chart below. The Pass/Fail option will be available for undergraduate and graduate classes. It will be made available to students during the week after grades are assigned in the course.
Courses that ended before March 12, 2020 are not eligible for this grade change option. Courses include: 8-week session 1 classes (met January 13 through March 8, 2020) and MC-7 7-week session 1 classes (met January 13 through March 1, 2020).
Some courses/departments may have specifications around which courses can be taken as P/X/F grade and opt out as necessary for licensing or accreditation standards. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with their advisors or program departments.

There will be a notation placed on transcripts of all students to highlight the context of the global pandemic during Spring 2020 to instruction and learning. As in normal circumstances, students should continue to consult with their academic advisors, school and departmental resources for additional guidance regarding post-degree plans and other opportunities. Also, for students thinking about applying to graduate or professional schools in the future, students may want to check target schools’ admissions websites for information they may have recently posted about accepting Pass/Fail grades. Students are responsible for determining how this option will affect future school applications.
No. Students must use the Spring 2020 COVID-19 grading form to submit their request. Students are encouraged to consult with their advisor and/or program departments to complete the form before submitting it to the registrar’s office through their MC email account.
It is critical to understand how Pass/Fail grading may affect you, so contact your advisor and/or program department before making a grading decision. In some instances, a Pass/Fail grade may impact financial aid, degree program requirements, licensure, or applications to graduate or professional school. Students are responsible for determining how this option will affect future school applications.
If a student is placed on academic probation or suspension this semester, changing one or more grades to Pass/Fail may benefit you. When a grade is changed to Pass/Fail, your GPA will be recalculated. If this recalculation puts your GPA within good standing, your academic standing will be adjusted.

Student athletes must have the approval of their athletic academic advisor before opting in to the Pass/Fail grading option. Depending on overall GPA, declaring Pass/Fail could affect NCAA eligibility.
Contact Susan Musselwhite or Whitney McRae in the Compliance Office for more information.
When declaring the Pass/Fail grade option, students must achieve grades of P in all EDU courses as well as content area courses that will be applied towards the licensure area(s) including supplemental endorsements.
To be eligible for Dean’s or President’s list honors a student must complete at least 12 credit hours that count toward their GPA. If a student elects the Pass/Fail grade option in enough courses, it could drop a student’s GPA hours below 12 making them ineligible for Dean’s or President’s List.

All students who have applied for graduation and have met the degree requirement for May 2020 will have their diploma awarded with a date of May 8, 2020. Because of the unprecedented nature of circumstances right now, we may delay the awarding of all degrees by 2-3 weeks while we process the pass/fail grade forms to ensure accuracy. Once degrees are awarded students will be notified by email. Additionally, students will receive an eDiploma through their MC email when degrees are awarded. Paper diplomas and diploma covers will arrive through mail 4-6 weeks after degrees are awarded.
