An outstanding businessman and longtime Mississippi College trustee, Paul G. Moak, Jr. will become the recipient of the university’s Award of Excellence.

MC National Alumni Board leaders recently selected Moak for the prestigious award. The honor goes annually to people providing distinguished service to the Baptist-affiliated institution.

The president of Paul Moak Automotive, the Jackson resident served nearly twenty years on MC’s Board of Trustees. The 1971 University of Mississippi graduate will be saluted with other award-winners at the university’s Homecoming Dinner on the Clinton campus October 14.

A three-generation family operated automotive retailer in Jackson, Moak’s company celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2016.

Moak’s extensive community service is impressive. It stretches from service on boards of the Northside YMCA, the Better Business Bureau of Mississippi and the Boy Scouts of America. In addition, he’s served on boards like Mission First, the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, the Salvation Army, Jackson Academy and many more over the years. He’s also served as chairman of the First Baptist Church Jackson Board of Deacons.

The MC Board of Trustees has been truly blessed by his service as chair of its Business Affairs Committee and enjoyed the benefits of his wise counsel for nearly 20 years, President Lee Royce said.

“The Moak family remains faithful over decades and generous of their support of the mission of Mississippi College,” Royce added.

Paul Moak is very devoted to his community, church and his business, says Vice President for Academic Affairs Ron Howard.

“His commitment and service in those areas is also reflected in his dedication to the advancement and improvement of Mississippi College,” Howard said.

Currently, Moak serves as the MC Board of Trustees vice chairman and on panels such as its Academic Affairs Committee. “His service to our students and our academic programs is exemplary,” Howard noted.

Paul Moak’s military experience includes service as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve Corps beginning in May 1971. He was honorably discharged as a captain in 1983. An Eagle Scout and graduate of Jackson’s Murrah High School, he began employment with Paul Moak Automotive in Jackson in 1971.

Outside of the business world, Paul Moak remains a devoted family man. He and his wife, the former Jeanne Howie Montgomery of Jackson, were married in 1971. The Jackson couple has a daughter, Jeanne Moak Scarbrough, and son, Paul G. Moak III, and five grandchildren.
