Celebrating the Beauty of Paint Arrives at Gore Galleries

A rich diversity of painting styles and techniques of five very talented artists will be on display at the Gore Galleries through February 18.
The exhibit at Mississippi College’s art gallery is dubbed “Celebrating the Beauty of Paint.”
The exhibit is now open. A reception is planned for the artists for Thursday January 20th from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the gallery on the Clinton campus. The public is invited.
“The intent of the show is to explore the beauty and diversity of the painting medium,” said Randy H. Jolly, the gallery’s director. “Each of the artists shows skill and mastery while maintaining individuality in their work.”
The artists showing their works include Susan Tabb Hataway of Raymond. Her landscapes are beautiful romantic studies of the property that surrounds her home in Hinds County. She features work in both oils and watercolor. Hataway is the wife of professor Michael Hataway, coordinator of the graphic arts program at Mississippi College.
Other artists booked for the exhibit include Melanie Atkinson of Clinton. She is the chair of the Department of Art at Hinds Community College in Raymond. Her work is a study of color, light and form.
Artist Dennis Heckler expresses his personality and passions through landscapes and commissioned house portraits that capture scenes from the American West, the Gulf South and Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. He lives in Yazoo City where he maintains a studio.
Millie Howell lives and paints in Philadelphia, Miss. She began painting in the early 1950s. “I am passionate about color and cannot resist using it unabashedly.”
A painter from Meridian, Charles Busler specializes in oils. His paintings have an impressionistic flavor and are filled with color.
The Samuel Marshall Gore Galleries is located at 199 Monroe Street. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gallery is also open on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. For more information, contact Randy Jolly at 601.925.7770 or rjolly@mc.edu.
