About 120 new Mississippi College Law School students will soon listen to sage advice from the state’s judges, lawyers and other legal professionals.

Orientation activities for the first-year MC Law students will run from August 7-10 on the Clinton campus.

President Blake Thompson and MC Law Dean Patricia Bennett will welcome the students. Bennett also serves as the new president of the Jackson-based Mississippi Bar Association.

The James O. Dukes Law School Professionalism program is designed to help students succeed in the classroom and later on in careers.

MC’s newest crop of law students comes from 22 states, including the Southeast. But they are also residents of states as far away as Montana, Iowa, Utah, Pennsylvania, Indiana and New York.

Mississippi College officials join the state’s legal community to help first-year students get off to a good start with this series of informative workshops.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the Class of 2021 to the Mississippi College School of Law,” says Jay Armstrong, its director of admissions.

Members of the Mississippi Supreme Court and other judges statewide attend the insightful sessions every year.

MC Law presenters include Jonathan Will, associate dean of research and faculty development, along with Phillip McIntosh, associate dean of academic affairs. Professor Matt Steffey and Tiffany Paige, the assistant dean of students are listed among other conference speakers.

Conducted annually by the Mississippi Bar Association, the program originated in 1999. It is named for former Bar Association President James O. “Jimmy” Dukes. The Mississippian had a vision for mentoring law students on professionalism in their careers.

The University of Mississippi Law School in Oxford hosts a similar Fall orientation for its first-year students.
