Mississippi College School of Law Hosts Healthcare Compliance Boot Camp

Healthcare remains one of the highest growth industries in the world.

In the United States alone, more than 14.3 million people work in the healthcare field. In addition, 3.2 million new jobs will be created over the next eight years, says the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Healthcare industry’s price tag in the USA exceeded $3 trillion a few years ago.

Beginning April 12, a two-day conference at the Mississippi College School of Law will tackle healthcare compliance issues. Attorneys as well as leaders in medical licensure, pharmacy, dentistry, and in compliance regulations will be among the guest speakers.

The 2018 Healthcare Compliance Boot Camp begins with MC Law Dean Patricia Bennett welcoming conference participants at 9 a.m. that Thursday on the downtown Jackson campus.

Bob Anderson of the Public Integrity Division of the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office in Jackson will be among the speakers on the first day. He will discuss government expectations of compliance programs.

Topics for other speakers later that day include fraud and abuse in a post-acute care setting, conducting risk assessments and compliance investigations.

On April 13, John Dowdy of the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and John Meynardie of the U.S. Attorney’s Office will discuss opioid crisis enforcement trends.

A panel discussion that Friday will examine how to navigate new regulations on prescribing practices. Speakers will include Dr. Randall Easterling of the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure, Phyllis Johnson of the Mississippi Board of Nursing, Todd Barnett of the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy and William Mark Donald of the Mississippi Board of Dentistry.

Sessions at the MC Law Student Center on 151 East Griffith Street will help keep professionals up to date on laws, rulings and regulations governing the healthcare industry and other important topics.

People who register will to receive 11 hours of Continuing Legal Education credit with one hour of ethics. Conference registration fees range from $200 for a single day and start at $300 for two days. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Registration is open to all, including attorneys and professionals in the healthcare industry.
