President Blake Thompson Visits MC Alumni in Alabama and Mississippi

President Blake Thompson will serve as the guest speaker when he visits with Mississippi College alumni at upcoming receptions in Birmingham, Gulfport and Hattiesburg.

Dr. Thompson began working as MC’s 20th president on July 1. He’s hit the ground running as a student-oriented leader who quickly connects with all university stakeholders. A former vice president at The Ohio State University before coming to MC, the Rienzi, Mississippi native is expected to discuss the latest developments for the 193-year-old Christian university.

Mississippi College alumni and university friends are invited to meet Dr. Thompson on February 11 at The Club (Vulcan Room) in Birmingham, Alabama. The venue is located at 1 Robert S. Smith Drive. The Monday event begins at 6:30 p.m. and wraps up two hours later. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased at the door or online. The next stop for President Thompson is a Thursday, February 21 meeting with Gulf Coast alumni at the Great Southern Club in Gulfport. The location’s address is 2510 14th Street (on the building’s 15th floor). Join fellow MC Choctaws for the two-hour event beginning at 6:30 p.m. The cost per person is $15. MC alumni, family and friends from the Pine Belt area can meet Dr. Thompson at the Depot Kitchen and Market in Hattiesburg on February 26. The two-hour event that Tuesday begins at 6:30 p.m. The venue is located at 209 Buschman Street. The charge is $15 per person. Details about other upcoming Mississippi College alumni events will be announced soon. But gatherings are planned for Memphis, Tennessee on March 5, Oxford April 29, and May 16 in Tupelo.

Mississippi College grads, friends and family members can cheer for the Choctaws baseball team in a March 20 game with the William Carey University Crusaders in Biloxi. MC won the Gulf South Conference championship last season. Their 5 p.m. game with William Carey will be played at MGM Park, home of the Biloxi Shuckers. The Southern League minor league baseball team is the Double-A affiliate of MLB’s Milwaukee Brewers.

MC was recently ranked in the top 20 NCAA Division II teams in the nation in pre-season polls. Led by head coach Jeremy Haworth, MC opens the 2019 baseball season with road games against the Harding University Bisons in Searcy, Arkansas February 1-2.
