Sara Beth Kimmel Leads MC's Flowood Center

Sara Beth Kimmel will become the leader of Mississippi College's new Flowood center.

A McComb native, Kimmel goes to work July 1 as director of the center that will serve as home of MC's Accelerated Degree Program. She also plans to teach business classes at the university's building next door to the Flowood Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center.

“We're looking forward to being an enthusiastic member of the Flowood community and a great corporate contributor to the surrounding area,” Kimmel said Wednesday.

Students enrolling at the center in Rankin County “will have the best of all worlds: the wonderful culture and high academic quality that Mississippi College is known for throughout the country and the convenience of the Dogwood Festival area,” she added.

Kimmel will wrap up her duties in late June as an associate professor of business administration at Belhaven University. A Belhaven educator since 2003, she also serves as the school's international studies coordinator.

A 1995 Belhaven graduate, Kimmel received a master's in business administration at Millsaps College and her doctorate in international development at the University of Southern Mississippi.

“Dr. Kimmel brings a breadth of knowledge to the position,” said graduate dean Debbie Norris, who also serves as MC's vice president for planning and assessment.

With a strong academic background, Kimmel “also brings a breadth of experience with both online learning and adult education,” Norris said.

Located in a renovated building at 115 Laurel Park Cove, the MC center will feature eight classrooms.

The Christian university's Accelerated Degree Program primarily caters to working adults. Students can earn degrees in business administration, accounting, marketing, public relations or sociology. Classes begin at the Flowood center Aug. 23.

Due to the birth of the Flowood center, MC will close its two satellite locations in Madison and Brandon.

The new Mississippi College center will later provide graduate level and continuing education classes.
