School of Business Dedicates Accounting Classroom
Mississippi College's School of Business will soon house a newly dedicated classroom in Self Hall.
MC Business Dean Marcelo Eduardo and others will attend ceremonies on Wednesday April 28 as Room 307 officially becomes the Tony Huffman, CPA & Terrell E. Wise Accounting Classroom.
Huffman, 47, is the owner of Huffman & Company, a professional firm specializing in small business taxes, accounting and advisory services. The Florida native attended Mississippi College on a track scholarship. He received several all-conference and national awards as a member of MC track and cross country teams for four years. Huffman received his bachelor's degree from MC in business administration with distinction.
"I am pleased to be able to have this opportunity to give something back to MC," Huffman said. "The School of Business is near and dear to my heart, having arrived there as a 17-year-old from Pensacola and leaving there four years later with a degree in accounting with the then Big Eight accounting firm of Ernst & Whinney."
Mississippi College and the School of Business, "took me in, and my professors guided me and nurtured me," Huffman added.
Founded in 1991, his Flowood-based company has grown to a staff of ten, including four certified public accountants. Huffman is active in the Jackson community with Habitat for Humanity, the Mississippi Track Club, Jackson Friends of the Library and other organizations.
The co-founder of the Mississippi Blues Marathon, Huffman was named the MC School of Business Distinguished Alumnus of the Year for 1999 and the MC Young Alumnus of the Year for 2004.
The late Terrell Wise, who died at age 88 in July 2008, was a Pensacola, Fla. native who founded Wise Construction Company in 1948. His company built commercial structures throughout the Southeast, including banks, churches and stadiums. His favorite project was the renovation of the Mississippi Governor's Mansion in 1975.
Wise was instrumental in the development of the School of Construction Technology at the University of Southern Mississippi. He served 17 years on the board of governors of Hinds General Hospital in Jackson and was a former president of Goodwill Industries. Wise served as chairman of the Woodland Hills Baptist Church deacons.
The classroom dedication in Self Hall enhances a building that's undergone extensive renovations since 2007, including upgrades of its lecture hall and the installation of the newest technology. Founded in 1946, the School of Business is the largest school at Mississippi College. Its MBA program is the oldest and largest in metro Jackson.
