Southern Baptist Convention Leader Richard Land Visits Mississippi College

Dr. Richard Land

A longtime leader with the Southern Baptist Convention, Dr. Richard Land will be part of a lineup of prominent speakers at Mississippi College chapel services.

Land has served as president of the convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission since 1988. An author and host of nationally syndicated radio shows, he will speak to hundreds of MC students during a February 15th chapel program at First Baptist Church Clinton. The program begins at 10:50 a.m.

During his tenure as a leader for the largest Protestant denomination in America, Land has represented Southern Baptists and other Evangelicals’ concerns in the halls of Congress, before U.S. presidents and the nation’s news media.

His “For Faith & Family” broadcast ministry is heard by listeners each week on more than 600 radio stations nationwide and worldwide on the Internet.

Dr. Land is a graduate of Princeton University with a doctorate in philosophy from Oxford University. His latest book, “The Divided States of America? What Liberals and Conservatives are Missing in the God-and-Country Shouting Match!” is published by Thomas Nelson.

The speaker at chapel on Tuesday January 25th will be Chris Burkett, director of programs with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mississippi. The Jackson-based group is part of a national mentoring organization that counts on volunteers to help children realize their potential. The national organization dates back more than 100 years.

On February 1, Dr. Rob Futral, pastor at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison, will speak to MC students. He’s a graduate of Mississippi College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Futral is working at the same church where his father, Dr. Jim Futral, served as pastor for more than a dozen years.

On February 8, author and motivational speaker Margot Starbuck, will address students at First Baptist Church Clinton. The Durham, N.C. resident is a graduate of Westmont College in California and Princeton Theological Seminary.
