To qualify as an antique, an automobile must have been manufactured more than 25 years ago.

By those standards, Mississippi College’s popular vanity license plate has aged out.

More than a quarter-century ago, the Beacon magazine debuted an official car tag design that featured the Nelson Hall clock tower seal. The license plate was an immediate hit with MC faculty, staff, students, and alumni, and its distinctive blue-and-gold insignia adorned automobiles throughout central Mississippi and beyond.

A generation later, the Christian University has adopted vibrant, new colors and a refreshed logo that institutional leaders are excited to share with the community – especially those who travel on four wheels.

All members of the Mississippi College family are invited to vote for one of four new license plate designs. The design that receives the most votes will replace MC’s original vanity plate this fall.

Tracey Harrison, associate vice president for marketing and communication, said the selected car tag will reflect the University’s new brand.

“Although we’ve had the new brand for almost a year, there may be some who are unaware of it,” Harrison said. “The MC license plates allow our Mississippi alumni and friends who support the University to show pride in the institution they call their own.”

Nick Stafford, director of marketing, said each of the four license plate designs that Mississippi College’s marketing team selected for the campaign will resonate well with the MC family.

“The designs express a much cleaner version of who Mississippi College is and highlight our new brand in a concise, appealing way,” Stafford said. “They have a crisp, beautiful look, and people will be excited to purchase one because they represent Mississippi College in an attractive way.”

The first option showcases MC’s modern interlocking-letter brand mark on a field of celestial blue, with the words “Mississippi College” at its base. The second highlights the University’s new athletic logo of a stylized eagle, reflecting MC’s renewed partnership with the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, with “MC Choctaws” rendered in gold at the bottom. The third contrasts the new brand mark and the University’s name in gold letters against a field of dark blue, and the fourth repeats that pattern with the word “Alumni” underneath the interlocking MC letters.

Stafford said the license plate designs pay homage to the University’s rich past while appealing to the next generation of Choctaws.

“For almost 200 years, MC has poured into its faculty, staff, students, and alumni, which is why the University has a stellar reputation as an institution dedicated to academic excellence and commitment to the cause of Christ,” he said. “These designs are a nod to that legacy while celebrating a future filled with excitement and potential.

“No matter which design they choose, everyone in the MC family will want to purchase a new MC tag to show their support for the University.”
